Gay Cuban-Americans protest Raul Castro’s daughter’s visit

The Castro regime’s hateful treatment of gays drove writer Reinaldo Arenas to suicide; now Raul’s daughter Mariela is visiting San Francisco and New York:

Steve Rothaus writes in his Miami Herald blog,
Cuban-American gay activists in Miami protest Mariela Castro’s visit to San Francisco, New York

Gay Cuban Americans in Miami are furious that Fidel Castro’s niece is meeting this week and next with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists in San Francisco and New York City.

“For Mariela Castro, or anybody else under the Castro dictatorship, to say they are representing the rights of anyone is an insult to the hundreds of thousands who have either been killed, jailed or assassinated by their own hands, or the nearly 100,000 people who’ve jumped into the ocean looking for freedom who haven’t made it here,” said Herb Sosa, executive director of Unity Coalition, Miami-Dade County’s leading Hispanic gay rights group.

Mariela was welcomed in San Francisco with joyful applause and two standing ovations,

Playing to a pro-gay rights audience in San Francisco, Mariela Castro immediately fed the crowd her worn out gay rights propaganda. And naturally, the attendees lapped it up with nary a thought or a concern for the violent repression suffered by members of the LGBT community in Cuba who do not adhere to the ideology of her uncle Fidel’s “revolution.” As long as Mariela told them what they wanted to hear, they could blissfully ignore the miserable and violent reality of life in Cuba.

To add insult to injury, Mariela, whose father has oppressed anyone who dares own books banned by the Communist regime, is scheduled to speak at the New York Public Library.

I expect that her entourage of sixty will be in attendance.

Hamster – what’s for dinner!

S.F. considers banning sale of pets except fish

Sell a guinea pig, go to jail.

That’s the law under consideration by San Francisco’s Commission of Animal Control and Welfare. If the commission approves the ordinance at its meeting tonight, San Francisco could soon have what is believed to be the country’s first ban on the sale of all pets except fish.

That includes dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, rats, chinchillas, guinea pigs, birds, snakes, lizards and nearly every other critter, or, as the commission calls them, companion animals.

Here’s what passes for reasoning on this:

“People buy small animals all the time as an impulse buy, don’t know what they’re getting into, and the animals end up at the shelter and often are euthanized,” said commission Chairwoman Sally Stephens. “That’s what we’d like to stop.”

But does it match reality?

Nope:

But the city’s animal control staff said that excess puppies and kittens are not the problem at the city shelter, thanks to the plethora of rescue groups.

Not to worry. San Francisco’s Commission of Animal Control and Welfare won’t let you buy one all the same.

It’s the hamsters who are the problem, and those don’t come from pet shops anyway,

But those shelter hamsters almost certainly did not originate at a pet store, said Michael Maddox, general counsel for the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council in Washington, D.C.

Well, San Francisco is a sanctuary city. What about the illegal aliens from countries where people eat hamsters? After all, guinea pigs are part of the Ecuadorian, Colombian and Peruvian cuisines. Perhaps the pet shop owners should locate a group of illegal aliens who dine on hamsters and appeal to the Commission of Animal Control and Welfare, pointing out that depriving the sale of these critters would infringe on the dietary needs of that particular ethnic group.

And you can wash it down with an icy-cold glass of delicious soy milk.

San Francisco bureaucrats: They know what’s good for you, reality or not.

VIDEO And how did that San Francisco fundraiser go?

Zombie, reporting at Pajamas Media, says The Stench of Elitism Hung Heavy in the Air

Obama was whipsawed, pummelled from all sides simultaneously. Left-wingers, right-wingers, pacifists, libertarians, communists, conservatives, people angry about the BP oil spill, people angry that Obama’s healthcare reform bill didn’t go far enough, others angry that it went too far, extremists, moderates, and everyone in between on both sides of the aisle.

In short, it was the people who came out to express their displeasure with Obama and Boxer. Regular folks, San Francisco-style — which means plenty of leftist ideologues, but also now a substantial contingent of heretofore unseen conservatives who had for decades stayed mute until Obama’s agenda touched such a raw nerve that they could remain mute no more.

And now for the video,

Go to the post so you don’t miss the guy in the bear suit, too.

Harry gives ’em more hell

Via Moe and Duane, more Barbara Boxer race relations:

Breitbart interviews Harry Alford after he challenged Barbara Boxer:

Alford: “Let me give you a stat on San Francisco: When I was growing up, San Francisco was about 40% black. Today San Francisco is about 8% black, and of that eight percent, of that black population more than sixty percent is unemployed… That’s Barbara Boxer’s San Francisco.”

Twenty minutes long, listen to the whole thing.
