Best Supporting Actor Jared Leto remembered the Venezuelan protesters:

To all the dreamers out there around the world watching this tonight in places like Ukraine and Venezuela, I want to to say we are here, and as you struggle to make your dreams happen and live the impossible, we are thinking of you tonight.

In Venezuela, most TV viewers could not watch the event as the private channel Venevision, for the first time in several decades of carrying the Academy Awards, did not broadcast the show Sunday night, which is hardly surprising, considering the Twitter campaign,

Mexican Alfonso Cuarón was a double winner: Mark Sanger and he first won for Best Film Editing (a category close to my heart), causing Paco Almaraz to quip,
“And, as if were a livestock fair, the price of Alfonso Cuarón’s semen just quintuplicated . . .”

Once Cuarón took another Oscar for Best Directing, a commenter in Almaraz’s feed was wondering if Cuarón would get cloned.

Hurt Locker? The Dude!

Hurt Locker won the best picture award.

Jules is not impressed.

However, Jeff Bridges got the best actor for Crazy Heart.

The Dude abides!

(Disclaimer: No, I am not implying that Jeff Bridges played The Dude in Crazy Heart. It’s just that The Big Lebowski’s my favorite movie.)

This development is perfectly predictable under the Roissy worldview. As women attain more and more economic empowerment and freedom from slut stigmatization, the average man’s provider beta status — once a reliable trait for attracting women into long term commitment — becomes marginalized. Thus, men under such a system begin to emphasize other male attractiveness traits in order to bed women; traits like game, assholery [further NSFW language warning], and looks. The confluence of a new cultural paradigm, advanced dietary science, and plastic surgery has produced a generation of leading men who look preserved in a state of youthful repudiation of rugged manliness.

Is that yet another reason why Jeff Bridges won this year’s Oscar? By keeping his rugged manliness intact?

Hugh Jackman, drunk and naked?

The BBC headline teases Hugh’s fans with this headline, Hugh’s surprise
Oscar host says he will do the show “drunk and nude”.

The drunk part is not appealing but let’s ponder the other,

When you go to the BBC story, it says, Surprises expected at Oscar gala

Jackman is expected to launch the evening with a spectacular song and dance number, choreographed by Moulin Rouge! director Baz Luhrmann and featuring some surprise participants.

However, the X-Men star told CNN the biggest surprise was that he would be presenting the show “drunk and nude”.

“That’s our new fresh approach,” he explained. “It’s the Australian way.”

Usually I don’t watch the Oscars, but might make an exception…for “the Australian way.”
