If the Pope were working for the other side, what exactly would he be doing differently?

Recently, Pope Francis

  • met with Peruvian priest Gustavo Gutierrez, the self-declared founder of liberation theology.
  • Restored to the priesthood Miguel d’Escoto, the Sandinista who expounded liberation theology as a priest and turned Nicaragua into a Cuban-ruled hellhole. D’Escoto also considers Fidel Castro a saint.
  • Brokered the “easing” of U.S.-Cuba relations that left the Cuban dissidents out in the dark.
  • Welcomed Raul Castro for an hour-long private audience.
  • UPDATE: Recognizes the Palestinian state.

To quote the estimable Mark Steyn, “If he were working for the other side, what exactly would he be doing differently?”

U.N. official says U.S. “demonizes” Iranian leader

D’Escoto is back at it:
Last month he was saying Fidel’s a saint, now he’s saying ‘Jad’s a really nice guy; and this is the guy who’s UN General Assembly President.

U.N. official says U.S. “demonizes” Iranian leader

The U.N. General Assembly president accused the United States on Tuesday of “demonizing” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the latest blast against Washington by the former Nicaraguan official.

“I don’t think anyone can doubt that in our part of the world, concretely here … Ahmadinejad has been demonized,” Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann told a news conference.
…
D’Escoto said that “the United States has been in the business of the demonization of people from (for)ever,” but had “canonized” former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos, former Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza and former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.

“And then we hear terrible things about Ahmadinejad,” D’Escoto said at the news conference on a recent trip to Syria, Finland, China, Bahrain, Switzerland and Iran to promote a U.N. conference in June on the world financial crisis.

D’Escoto said there had been “a big ado,” including protest letters written to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, when he went to a New York meeting attended by Ahmadinejad during the annual General Assembly summit last September. He did not say who had written the letters.

He said the “demonization” contrasted with the “great respect” in which Iran was held by its neighbors for hosting some 3 million refugees from Afghanistan.

D’Escoto also doesn’t want mass-murderer Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir busted because it would be “racist,”

He said it would “deepen a perception that international justice is racist.”

While he was at it, D’Escoto defends his statement accusing Israel of apartheid towards Palestinians because Jimmy Carter said it first.

Too bad Jimmy wasn’t there or Jimmy, D’Escoto and ‘Jad could have had a group hug.

Just another day at the UN cesspool of depravity.

Iran blogger dies in Evin prison

Reports from Iran say Omid Mirsayafi, a blogger who had been jailed for insulting the country’s ruling clerics, has died in Tehran’s main prison.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran says Mr Mirsayafi, 29, died on Wednesday.

His lawyer Mohammad Ali Dadkhah said officials at the Evin prison told him Mr Mirsayafi had committed suicide and he demanded and immediate inquiry.

There was no immediate comment from Iranian authorities.

In quotes published by AFP, Mr Dadkhah said another Evin prisoner with medical training “had warned officials in the jail of the state the young blogger was in”.

The ICHRI says he suffered from severe depression.

Mr Mirsayafi was sentenced last month to 30 months in prison after being convicted of insulting supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other clerics.

The offense that saw him thrown into Iran’s infamous Evin prison?

Asking “Mr. Khamenei, can you love me as much as you love Sheikh Nasrallah’s son?”

Fidel Castro: The UN’s Saint

From the cesspool of depravity,

UN General Assembly President: “Fidel Castro Is the Closest Thing We Have to a Saint”

UN General Assembly President Miguel D’Escoto praised Fidel Castro on World Day of Social Justice saying the Cuban tyrant is the closest thing we have to a saint.

In his own words,

Prensa Latina reported that, in regards to Fidel Castro, the UN official said that “rather than a hero, Fidel is what best resembles a saint in our troubled world.”

He added that the United Nations and all humanity are in debt with Fidel Castro, who has dedicated his life to promote and practice solidarity with the oppressed peoples of the world.

US-born anti-Semite and former Sandinista D’Escoto is one of Ahmadinejad’s buddies and publicly embraced him after ‘Jad’s fiery UN speech last year where Ahmadinajad quoted from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. (Here’s the whitewashed official UN bio of D’Escoto.)

Hardly surprising, then, that D’Escoto would regard mass-murderer Castro as a friend.
