Mexico: Another Fast & Furious gun found

Hundreds of Mexicans continue to die,
ANOTHER FAST & FURIOUS GUN TURNS UP AT MEXICAN CRIME SCENE on an attack on the Rocky Point resort area near the Arizona border.

Whether the ATF has “accepted responsibility” or not, Congress has continued to attempt to try and get to the bottom of the failed program despite repeated attempts by Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder to stonewall the investigation led by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA).

And Holder appealed a judge’s ruling allowing the House of Representatives to continue with a contempt case stemming from his refusal to turn over documents related to the Justice Department’s response to the Operation Fast and Furious gunwalking controversy.

Feds consider new gun regsin the USA, after sending thousands of firearms to Mexico, a country with some of the most strict gun laws in our hemisphere (h/t Instapundit).

Holder withholding Fast & Furious docs

Hundreds of dead Mexicans, and one American, but HOLDER BEGS COURT TO STOP DOCUMENT RELEASE ON FAST AND FURIOUS

Judicial Watch had filed, on June 22, 2012, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking all documents relating to Operation Fast and Furious and “specifically [a]ll records subject to the claim of executive privilege invoked by President Barack Obama on or about June 20, 2012.”

The administration has refused to comply with Judicial Watch’s FOIA request, and in mid-September the group filed a lawsuit challenging Holder’s denial. That lawsuit remains ongoing but within the past week President Barack Obama’s administration filed what’s called a “motion to stay” the suit. Such a motion is something that if granted would delay the lawsuit indefinitely.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said that Holder’s and Obama’s desire to continually hide these Fast and Furious documents is “ironic” now that they’re so gung-ho on gun control. “It is beyond ironic that the Obama administration has initiated an anti-gun violence push as it seeking to keep secret key documents about its very own Fast and Furious gun walking scandal,” Fitton said in a statement. “Getting beyond the Obama administration’s smokescreen, this lawsuit is about a very simple principle: the public’s right to know the full truth about an egregious political scandal that led to the death of at least one American and countless others in Mexico. The American people are sick and tired of the Obama administration trying to rewrite FOIA law to protect this president and his appointees. Americans want answers about Fast and Furious killings and lies.”
The only justification Holder uses to ask the court to indefinitely delay Judicial Watch’s suit is that there’s another lawsuit ongoing for the same documents – one filed by the U.S. House of Representatives. Judicial Watch has filed a brief opposing the DOJ’s motion to stay.

As the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform was voting Holder into contempt of Congress for his refusal to cooperate with congressional investigators by failing to turn over tens of thousands of pages of Fast and Furious documents, Obama asserted the executive privilege over them. The full House of Representatives soon after voted on a bipartisan basis to hold Holder in contempt.

It’s ironic that one of [O]bama’s executive orders states “the DOJ will release a report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement”.

Holder in contempt

Fast and Furious scandal: House panel votes to hold Eric Holder in contempt

A House panel voted Wednesday to hold Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. in contempt for failing to cooperate with a congressional inquiry into Operation “Fast and Furious” hours after President Obama asserted executive privilege over related documents.

On a party-line vote, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted 23 to 17 to hold Holder in contempt for failing to share documents related to the operation run out of the Phoenix division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives between 2009 and 2011, with the backing of the U.S. attorney in Phoenix. The move makes Holder the first member of Obama’s Cabinet held in contempt by a congressional committee.

Why executive privilege over Fast & Furious?

UPDATE: Holder in contempt

Up until now, Holder has insisted that the White House had absolutely nothing to do with Fast & Furious. Now Obama asserts executive privilege on some Fast and Furious documents

The White House move means the Department of Justice can withhold some of the documents from the House Oversight Committee, which was scheduled to consider a contempt measure Wednesday against Holder.

So, to do this doesn’t that mean that he did in fact know about this earlier than he has indicated?
Otherwise how does a DOJ operation fall under this?

“The assertion of executive privilege raises monumental questions,” Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley said in a statement released Wednesday shortly after the president’s move. “How can the President assert executive privilege if there was no White House involvement? How can the President exert executive privilege over documents he’s supposedly never seen? Is something very big being hidden to go to this extreme? The contempt citation is an important procedural mechanism in our system of checks and balances. The questions from Congress go to determining what happened in a disastrous government program for accountability and so that it’s never repeated again.”

The White House may claim that anyone in the executive branch can claim executive privilege. That’s not going to work,

In the landmark case that spells out presidential executive privilege, United States vs Nixon (1974), the Supreme Court found that executive privilege pertains to communications directly with the president, and otherwise limited the scope of executive privilege. Today’s move by the White House implies either that Fast and Furious reaches directly into the Oval Office, or that the White House is challenging the Nixon ruling. Either way, today’s assertion is a major escalation of the scandal.

Now that the White House has jumped in, will the media pay attention?

Phineas has more on the topic.

Holder insults Puerto Rican Congressman

Holder to Puerto Rican Rep: ‘Wherever you’re from’

If you need confirmation that Republicans on the House Oversight committee got under Attorney General Eric Holder’s skin today at the hearing on Fast and Furious, just look at this response he gave to Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, who grilled Holder about his own previous statements.

Specifically, note Holder’s comment that “maybe this is the way you do things in Idaho, or wherever you’re from.”

Because Rep. Labrador doesn’t feed from the Dem plantation.

Next thing you know, Holder will be telling Labrador he “doesn’t even look Puerto Rican.”

Holder plays the race card UPDATED

What took you so long, Eric?
Justice Dept. silent as Holder charges critics with racism

Attorney General Eric Holder accused his growing chorus of critics of racist motivations in a Sunday interview published in the New York Times. When reached by The Daily Caller Monday morning, the Department of Justice provided no evidence to support the attorney general’s claims.

Holder said some unspecified faction — what he refers to as the “more extreme segment” — is driven to criticize both him and President Barack Obama due to the color of their skin. Holder did not appear to elaborate on who he considered to make up the “more extreme segment.”

Eric forgets that thousands of weapons sold to Mexican drug cartels, along with money laundering, have caused hundreds of deaths in Mexico, along with Brian Terry’s death; all of the dead won’t see the color of Eric’s skin.

Meanwhile, the NY Times wants us to believe Eric’s the victim.

Apparently Eric’s an old hand at crying racism. Christian Adams posts,

Of course none of this should surprise anyone who read my book Injustice.  The book opens with rotted racialist views that Holder holds near and dear, very near.  It describes a clipping Eric Holder carried in his wallet for decades – a clipping from Harlem preacher Samuel Proctor.  From Injustice:

For much of his life, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. carried around something peculiar. While most people keep cash, family photos, and credit cards in their wallets, Holder revealed to a reporter in 1996 that he keeps with him an old clipping of a quote from Harlem preacher Reverend Samuel D. Proctor. Holder put the clipping in his wallet in 1971, when he was studying history at Columbia University, and kept it in wallet after wallet over the ensuing decades.

What were Proctor’s words that Holder found so compelling?

“Blackness is another issue entirely apart from class in America. No matter how affluent, educated and mobile [a black person] becomes, his race defines him more particularly than anything else. Black people have a common cause that requires attending to, and this cause does not allow for the rigid class separation that is the luxury of American whites. There is a sense in which every black man is as far from liberation as the weakest one if his weakness is attributable to racial injustice.”

When asked to explain the passage, Holder replied, “It really says that … I am not the tall U.S. attorney, I am not the thin United States Attorney. I am the black United States attorney. And he was saying that no matter how successful you are, there’s a common cause that bonds the black United States attorney with the black criminal or the black doctor with the black homeless person.”

What is surprising that Charlie Savage even published Holder’s racialist gripe at the New York Times.  Two possibilities.  Savage is so in the tank for the administration, something the same article reveals on other points, that he simply did not recognize the volcanic nature of the complaint.  Savage perhaps agrees with it.  The second possibility is that Holder is performing his best Marc Antony act (the Roman, not the singer) and giving himself up as gone.  Nothing stokes the base like a progressive who met his demise because of the perceived evil racial motivation of his enemies.  The two possibilities are not mutually exclusive.

Indeed.

The race card: The last refuge of a scoundrel.

Fast and Furious documents dumped last Friday afternoon UPDATED

More on Fast and Furious,
Gunwalker: Justice Dept. Violated U.S. Laws Beyond Those Being Investigated
I know, because I was the principal drafter of some of the legislation.

White House denies reports Obama knew of ‘Fast and Furious’ in 2010, and tells the Daily Caller to read a post by Media Matters.

Ariz. congressman: Pressure to resign is getting to Eric Holder

Scott Johnson writes about the Fast And Furious Lies,

In its execution of best scandal management practices, the Obama administration orchestrated another Friday night document dump last week. The Department of Justice released some 1400 pages of documents related to the Fast and Furious operation. The documents purport to explain why at least two statements made by Department of Justice officials to Congress regarding the operation turned out to be false.

Michael Walsh exhorts the Justice Department to come clean and answer these questions,

the man who supervised it, Attorney General Holder, will appears before Congress again Thursday to testify in the exploding fiasco. But there’s really only one question he needs to answer: Why?

Why did Justice, the ATF and an alphabet soup of federal agencies facilitate the transfer of guns across the border — without the knowledge of Mexican authorities — when they knew they couldn’t trace them properly?

While we wait for answers, the Administration sealed the court records relating to agent Terry’s murder.
