Mexican daily El Universal reports that Mexican authorities have caught 44 members of the Michoacan cartel, among them leader Rafael Cedeño Hernández, El Cede.
El Cede was in charge of the Lázaro Cárdenas region from which he coordinated cocaine shipments originating from Central America, and shipments of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine originating from Europe and Asia. “He also controlled bars and protection rackets, and fostered the prostitution of minors,” stated Federal Police Commissioner Rodrigo Esparza.
From El Universal (my translation)
When he was arrested Cedeño was carrying credentials as permanent observer for the State Commission of Human Rights, and declared that the prior week he had order the execution of six people.
But he had his “values”, among them training all members of the organization so they would stay away from drugs and alcoholism.
This was a huge raid, well planned in advance:
Alongo with El Cede, four other high-ranking members of the organization were arrested, including Francisco Javier Torres Mora, El camello, allegedly in charge of executing members of rival Zetas and Beltrán Leyva.
The raid took place during a Christening party with 120 guests. Assault weapons, five grenades, loaders, cartridges, four bags of marijuana, 92 envelopes of crack, eight vehicles, 18 cell phones and two communication radios were impounded.
Not one shot was fired during the raid, which involved 400 police agents, a 727 airplane, two Blackhawk helicopters, and two armored vehicles.
An amazing news story.
