Camille Paglia is very enthusiastic about the Carnaval de Salvador, Brazil and singing sensation Daniela Mercury (no relation to Freddy?). Daniela should not be confused with Sao Paolo Carnaval’s Viviane Castro, which readers of this blog probably still remember, for, as Stacey calls it, rule #5.

Less entertaining is Paglia’s article about Obama, who is not a salvador: Heads should roll: President Obama’s clumsy, smirky staff is sinking him — and resurrecting a deflated GOP! Paglia blames Obama’s handlers, and manages to compare Obama to Pope Leo X. But back to Stacy Smitty, who reading about Camille’s “great hope and confidence” on Obama asks,
Great hope and confidence? Based upon what? His book sales? His campaign-fu? Call me a balding old squid, but the POTUS eats whatever the staff serves, just as the captain of the ship does when she’s hard aground. Credit and blame are flip sides of the Coin of Office, Camille.
