Did Weiner cut a deal?

We know that

a trove of emails described by the F.B.I. director as pertinent to the now-closed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server were discovered on a computer belonging to Anthony D. Weiner, the estranged husband of Huma Abedin, a top aide to Mrs. Clinton.
. . .
The F.B.I. is investigating illicit text messages that Mr. Weiner, a former Democratic congressman from New York, sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. The bureau told Congress on Friday that it had uncovered new emails related to the Clinton case — one federal official said they numbered in the tens of thousands.

By all appearances, the FBI appears to have him on sexting a minor, which may qualify sexual misconduct. If the girl involved was not yet fifteen years old at the time Weiner did the sexting, things may look dismal indeed.

So my question is, did Weiner and his attorneys offer that computer as a bargaining chip?

Especially if the computer contained emails destroyed after they were subpoenaed?

What you really should be reading about Anthony Weiner

other than his pervy, salacious compulsions, has to do with his wife Huma’s Unmentionables:

Sorry to interrupt the Best Enabler of a Sociopath Award ceremony but, to recap, Ms. Abedin worked for many years at a journal that promotes Islamic-supremacist ideology that was founded by a top al-Qaeda financier, Abdullah Omar Naseef. Naseef ran the Rabita Trust, a formally designated foreign terrorist organization under American law. Ms. Abedin and Naseef overlapped at theJournal of Muslim Minority Affairs (JMMA) for at least seven years. Throughout that time (1996–2003), Ms. Abdein worked for Hillary Clinton in various capacities.

Read the whole thing, written by Andrew McCarthy, who was chief prosecutor of the first World Trade Center terrorist attack. He concludes with

Naturally, what did get Washington chattering was a scandal far more typical in Clinton circles — the lucrative arrangement Ms. Abedin struck with Mrs. Clinton’s State Department that allowed her, after returning from maternity leave, to draw a $135,000 State Department salary while remaining in New York, not actually working at Foggy Bottom, and moonlighting as a “strategic consultant” for an outfit called Teneo – founded by Bill Clinton’s chum Doug Band.

What a racket. The marriage to Huma Abedin, a Clinton insider, enables Anthony Weiner to resurrect a debased career and deflect attention from his psychotic antics even as he continues them. The marriage to Anthony Weiner, a prominent Jewish progressive, enables Huma Abedin to deflect attention from her associations with various Islamic supremacists even as, during her tenure as a top State Department official, American policy embraces Islamic supremacists.

You must read the whole thing.

Oh, go away! UPDATED

Anthony Weiner, the Chicken Run look-alike and all-around perv waited a year and a month, but he’s got a comeback in mind,
Disgraced pol Weiner eyes mayor or public advocate run

The disgraced former congressman — who’s sitting on a $4.5 million campaign war chest — is mulling a bid for citywide office next year and “seriously considering” a mayoral run, multiple sources told The Post.

The cocky pol is also open to the post of public advocate as a backup plan, said sources, who described the Queens Democrat as “desperate” to get back into politics.

Weiner, 47, has even spoken to former staffers about going back to work for him, according to another source.

And he wants to run soon because the public match on his campaign funds are due to expire after the 2013 election.

The cocky pol waxed, too, butt I digress.

And then, there’s pubic public advocate,

The buzz in political circles is that the sext-happy Weiner has a better shot at public advocate — a $165,000-a-year job viewed as a “cleansing” post where he could put his character issues further behind him as he prepped for a 2017 mayoral run.

Cleansing, waxing, whatever. Just go away!

UPDATE, 18 July,
Oh, look, right on schedule, Weiner’s on People Mag with baby pictures.

Next: Huma writes a book. Oprah interviews them. Media fawns.

#Weiner says he’ll step down

According to the New York Times,

Representative Anthony D. Weiner has told House leaders and friends that he plans to resign his seat after coming under growing pressure from his Democratic colleagues to leave the House, said a top Democratic official and two people told of Mr. Weiner’s plans.

James Taranto, however, looks at a different aspect,

Will Mrs. Weiner Fire Mr. Weiner?
House Democrats are anxious to be rid of Anthony Weiner the Tumid Tweeter, National Journal reported yesterday:

They conceded that their best strategy for getting to that point is hoping that Weiner’s wife will persuade him to go.

“We’re hearing he might resign in a couple of days,” said Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y. “He’s waiting for his wife to come home. That’s what we’re hearing from his friends.” . . .

A senior Democratic aide said there was much anticipation expressed by members–if not desperation–that Weiner might be talked into resigning by his wife, Huma Abedin, later this week.

Right, just like Mrs. Weiner’s boss, Hillary Clinton, persuaded her husband to quit politics amid a sex scandal.

Why in the world would the Dems expect Mrs. Weiner to press her husband to resign, thereby cutting the household income in half? Even if the marriage fell apart, the prospect of collecting alimony and child support would leave her with a continuing interest in his gainful employment.

Is Mrs. Clinton threatening Mrs. Weiner’s employment or advancement in order to pressure Mr. Weiner to resign? That’s the only way in which this plan would make sense.

Actually, no, that is not the only way: Another way is for Weiner to be offered a job with an organization or individual(s) who support the Democrats enough to guarantee him enough salary and benefits to make his resignation worthwhile. You can bet there’s a deal in the works, if not already consolidated.

Stacy says today is the day Weiner resigns. UPDATE: The Fix confirms it.

Weiner goes to rehab, Nancy wants him out

After Patterico (here, here and here) broke the story of Anthony Weiner’s talking dirty to underage girls and the mainstream news media picked up the story, Nancy Pelosi wants him to quit.

He’s going on leave and will check himself into a treatment center instead, for treatment of The Weiner Syndrome,

You would think that Nancy would know better than to expect that a guy who had Bill Clinton officiate at his wedding would quit.

#Weinergate: “To be clear, the picture was of me, and I sent it.” Will not resign.

VIDEO:
Weiner’s statement,

Breitbart at the beginning, since Weiner was late,

4:50PM Weiner says he also misled his Congressional staff.

4:48PM Says did not violate the rules of the House, or violates the Constitution.

Dan Blatt’s also liveblogging.

4:40PM Accepts full responsibility. “My constituents will have to make the determination to vote [him out of office]“. He’s not quitting, alright.

The WaPo is carrying this story in their LIFESTYLE section, along with the decorating and parties.

4:35PM Weiner apologizes to Andrew Breitbart.
He says he never had any physical relationship with any of the women but does not deny phone sex, and “won’t rebut anything” the women are saying.

Earlier in the press conference,
Anthony Weiner states during this afternoon press conference: “To be clear, the picture was of me, and I sent it.”

Would have saved himself a world of trouble if he had just said it in the first place.

He’s not resigning.

Live feed here.

Breitbart says he’s got a photo that is “extremely graphic, and leaves nothing to the imagination.” Weiner’s denying the photo exists. Weiner did not deny that such a photo may exist.

I missed it earlier, but Ace posts that

Breitbart was at Weiner’s press conference. Press began asking him questions so he took the dias and answered them. I think it was mostly about not being the hacker, because there was no hacker.

Stacy is also liveblogging.
