A return to civility?

In contrast to Maxine, Dave Rubin sees a return to civility:

Had a great birthday in Napa, thanks for all the nice wishes. Over a great bottle of cab I had a thought. The Age of Civility is dawning. You can’t see it from the usual suspects, but there’s a massive, growing group of people over the hate, outrage and personal attacks.

@HeatherEHeying, @CHSommers are teaching old truths via new technology. @clairlemon is doing real journalism via @QuilletteM. @benshapiro is changing minds with facts. We don’t have all the answers but we respect you enough not to pretend that we do. I’m psyched for the future…

Civility involves respecting yourself and others.

In order to respect others, you must respect yourself.

Joe Cocker had something to sing about on respect (emphasis added):

If you disrespect anybody that you run in to
How in the world do you think anybody’s s’posed to respect you
If you don’t give a heck ’bout the man with the bible in his hand
Just get out the way, and let the gentleman do his thing
You the kind of gentleman that want everything your way
Take the sheet off your face, boy, it’s a brand new day.

Respect yourself, respect yourself
If you don’t respect yourself
Ain’t nobody gonna give a good cahoot
, na na na na
Respect yourself, respect yourself.

If you’re walking ’round think’n that the world owes you something cause
You’re here you goin’ out the world backwards like you did when you
Put your hand on your mouth when you cough, that’ll help the solution
Oh, you cuss around women and you don’t even know their names and you
Dumb enough to think that’ll make you a big ol man

Start with respecting yourself.

Sing it, Joe,

And before you answer with whataboutitsm, remember If you don’t respect yourself
Ain’t nobody gonna give a good cahoot
.

If you cannot discuss a point without descending to yelling, ad hominem and name-calling, I sincerely – in Joe’s immortal words – ain’t gonna give a good cahoot.

It may not amount to much, but at least it’s a start towards civility.

Thanks for your post and the song. Today they no longer make music like the “old” days.

Most of the leftist insanity in the world comes from Vladimir Lenin, not the copycat Saul Alinski.
    For example:
“We can and must write in a language which sows among the masses hate, revulsion, and scorn toward those who disagree with us.”
“Destroy the family, you destroy the country.”
“Cause the registration of all firearms on some pretext, with the view of confiscating them and leaving the population defenseless.”
“The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses.” – Vladimir Lenin
“People always have been and they always will be stupid victims of deceit and self-deception in politics.”
“One quick way to destroy a society is through its music.”
“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.”
“Of all the arts, for us the cinema is the most important.” (take over Hollywood?)
“We need the real, nation-wide terror which reinvigorates the country and through which the Great French Revolution achieved glory.”
Any of this sound familiar? Maybe what’s going on today?

Been a while I’ve heard that one! “Put your hand over your mouth when you cough, that’ll help the solution!”. Joe Cocker was a great cover artist. This one is Staples Singers, but Joe’s hook is meatier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oab4ZCfTbOI&list=RDoab4ZCfTbOI&index=2. Joe’s hook is a lot like the one John Hiatt uses in Alone in the Dark. You know it. True Lies movie, the JamieLee Curtis striptease scene. Hey, I’m a musician! Don’t be judgin’!
