HONDURAS
Gun Deaths in Honduras Double in 9 Years
Fausta, this headline from the LAHT- which you correctly quoted- is one more illustration of the innumeracy of many in the journalism profession.
From the article:
The number of deaths in Honduras caused by firearms has increased 206.5 percent over the past nine years, the Central American nation’s human rights commissioner said on Friday….
Murders carried out with guns climbed from 1,835 in 2005 to 5,626 last year.
The percentage quoted- 206.5%– is correct. Murders more than tripled from 1835 to 5625. What the headline writer doesn’t realize is that a 200% increase indicates a tripling, just as a 100% increase indicates a doubling. That is junior high math, which is beyond the ken of too many in the journalism profession.

Talk Is Cheap for Uruguay’s “Humble President”
Yup, the Tupmaros were that libertarian- excuse me “liberation” -movement back in the day.
And Pepe was buddy buddy with Hugo Chavez, the late great libertarian.
Gringo,
You’re right on both counts!
