The SOTU in 30 words or less, UPDATED with the most offensive line
You can read the full text of the State of the Union address here, or you can can summarize it in 30 words or less:
- A catchy phrase “borrowed” from Newt’s Contract With America: Winning the Future. (3 words)
- Sputnik! (1 word)
- And, as MOTUS put it in 25 words,
a country where all Americans can enjoy smoked salmon served to them on a solar powered high speed train, served by well educated illegal immigrants
There you have it, in 30 words or less.
400 people approved of the speech, according to CBS News.
Nothing unusual about that.
As Hugh Hewitt said, An Exhausting Speech From An Exhausted President.
Sweetness and Light’s fact-checking the AP “fact-checkers”, and TigerHawk has two questions, but Jim’s got it down to five words.
Post re-redacted to include two missing paragraphs.

Deficit at $1.5 trillion
CBO report: U.S. budget deficit to reach $1.5 trillion, highest ever
“We estimate that if current laws remain unchanged, the budget deficit this year will be close to $1.5 trillion, or 9.8 percent of [gross domestic product]. That would follow deficits of 10 percent of GDP last year and 8.9 percent in the previous year, the three largest deficits since 1945. As a result, debt held by the public will probably jump from 40 percent of GDP at the end of fiscal year 2008 to nearly 70 percent at the end of fiscal year 2011.”
Here’s the truth: The government spending is totally unsustainable.
Israpundit reminds us,
The 111th Congress Added More Debt Than First 100 Congresses Combined: $10,429 Per Person in U.S.
It was historic.
Barack Obama tripled the national deficit in one year. When Speaker Pelosi took over Congress the national deficit was $162 billion. When she exited in 2011 as Speaker it was at $1.29 Trillion dollars.
Obama topped a trillion dollars his second year, too.Spending was up 84% under Obama.

Bipartisan seating for the SOTU address tonight? Not for Nancy Pelosi: Pelosi not sitting with Cantor, despite his invitation. Tweet Of The Day: Don’t Wait To Ask The Girl To The Prom Edition. Since she won’t be sitting behind the President, we shall be spared the sight of Nancy as cheeleader-in-chief to Obama’s every word:

Justice Scalia says he hasn’t “gone to the State of the Union in at least 10 years, and I’m not starting tomorrow night either.” Roger Kimball also has the State of the Union Blues. I think I’ll head out to meditation class.

The Danish Member of Parliament Jesper Langballe commented on the Hedegaard case and was himself charged with “racism”. While preparing his defense, he was also told by the court that “defendants in cases brought under Article 266b are denied the right to prove their case”.
Oh.
That’s why these are heresy trials, and only the first of many. The prosecutors think Hedegaard, Langballe, Wilders, Mrs Sabbaditsch-Wolff et al are apostates from the new state religion of multiculturalism. Thuggish Muslim lobby groups, on the other hand, consider them heretics against Islam. In practice, it makes little difference, and multiculturalism is merely an interim phase, a once useful cover for an Islamic imperialism so confident it now barely needs one. The good news is that European prosecutors are doing such a grand job with their pilot program of show trials you’ll hardly notice the difference when sharia is formally instituted.
Back in the USA, just because you’re a Cabinet member doesn’t mean the POTUS can spare any time with you, and just because you are First Lady doesn’t mean you can get good tailoring.

What O wants, O gets? Ruling Restores Emanuel’s Name to Ballot, for Now
I was asking just a little while ago, Will it be a case of “what Obama wants, Obama gets”?
Didn’t have to wait long for an answer:
Ruling Restores Emanuel’s Name to Ballot, for Now
The Illinois Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Rahm Emanuel’s name back on the ballot, a day after an appellate court ruled him ineligible to run for mayor of Chicago, and told election officials not to print any ballots that exclude Mr. Emanuel’s name.
Emanuel has continued campaigning as if nothing’s going on.
That’s the Chicago way.
Obama wants Rahm Emanuel back on the Chicago mayor ballot
Obama wants Rahm Emanuel back on the Chicago mayor ballot, says Politico,
President Barack Obama wants former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to stay on the Chicago mayoral ballot, a top presidential confidante said Tuesday.
“I think that [Obama] believes that [Emanuel] is eligible, and that he believes that Rahm will pursue his appeal in the courts,” said Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Obama and fellow Chicagoan, on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Apparently the ballots have not yet been printed:
The Chicago Board of Elections planned to start printing ballots without Emanuel’s name unless Emanuel’s lawyers can get a “stay” of the appellate court ruling. Emanuel’s lawyers filed their request for a stay just before 5 p.m. Monday

Sing it, Sarah!
Rahm Emanuel can’t run for mayor of Chicago, says court
Well, he didn’t keep his day job,
Court: Rahm Emanuel Can’t Run For Mayor, Not Chicago Resident
DEVELOPING:
The Chicago News Cooperative is reporting that an Illinois Appellate Court has overturned a decision regarding Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago residency. The court reportedly decided Emanuel is not eligible to run for mayor of Chicago because he has not been a resident of the city for one year.
“We conclude that the candidate neither meets the the municipal code’s requirement that he have ‘resided’ in Chicago for the year preceding the election in which he seeks to participate nor falls within any exception to the requirement,” the ruling stated. (Read the court decision here.)
