In an empty gesture, the University of Illinois denied Bill Ayers emeritus status, which carries no monetary benefits, unlike tenure, which he has enjoyed for years:
U. of Ill. denies William Ayers emeritus status
The University of Illinois on Thursday denied 1960s radical William Ayers emeritus faculty status after trustees Chairman Christopher Kennedy noted Ayers dedicated a book to, among others, the man who killed Kennedy’s father, Robert F. Kennedy.
Some of the trustees went the Brave Sir Robin route and abstained, lest their liberal bona-fides be questioned later (emphasis added),
All nine voting trustees either opposed granting Ayers, a recently retired University of Illinois-Chicago professor, the largely honorary status or abstained from the vote.
Mind you, they only denied emeritus status because Robert Kennedy’s son Christopher, who chairs the board, pleaded against it since Ayers dedicated Prairie Fire to Robert Kennedy’s assassin Sirhan Sirhan.
So the terrorist who called himself “guilty as sin, free as a bird” continues to enjoy his pension and all the benefits of tenure after spending a couple of decades indoctrinating students.
The guy was suitable to teach at the university for over 20 years and to lead programs to train teachers, yet now they put their foot down over giving him the title of emeritus?
They hired him in the first place and kept him there as a respected member of their faculty. Pardon me, but I’m not impressed with the university’s fortitude of coming out against the idea of honoring assassins.
Not just any assassin; the assassin from whose living room Obama launched his political carreer.
