Santos Leads Colombian Elections
Colombian former Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos was ahead in the first round of presidential elections Sunday and emerged as a clear front-runner ahead of a runoff vote slated for June 20.
Mr. Santos secured 46.6% of the votes, while his closest rival, two-time Bogota mayor Antanas Mockus, won 21.6% of the votes after election authorities had counted 63% of votes cast.
Since Mr. Santos hasn’t reached the 50% threshold to win in the first round, both candidates are likely to face off in second round vote to be held in June 20.
