Cooler Creates Times Square Scare
A unattended cooler containing water bottles and books caused closed streets in Times Square from 44th to 47th street and Seventh Avenue and Broadway for a police investigation.
Traffic was cleared on the four lanes of Broadway. It left the major roadway empty with police officers standing at one end.
People in the frozen zone were ordered to stay in their buildings during the investigation.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne says police created some distance between the cooler and “in an abundance of caution.”
Along with the NYPD, the FDNY and ambulance crews were on scene. The bomb squad was brought in to examine the package.
And
WSJ.com reported that between Sunday and Wednesday, police have checked out 493 suspicious packages, compared with 381 in the same period last year.
Let’s hope the authorities and the public at large continue to be vigilant, instead of getting fatigued from false alarms.
