I’m watching Anthony Bourdain’s Guide to Panama.
Bourdain’s own idiosyncrasies make the show all the more fun, while showing real people and real foods of the countries he visits. He’s spending a lot of time discussing Noriega, who was a criminal through and through, but even then he manages to show a flavor of the country. Here’s a brief video.
I also enjoyed his show about Puerto Rico, where he mercifully stayed (mostly) away from politics.
