Bill Clinton speaks of vast, right-wing conspiracy
Bill Clinton says a vast, right-wing conspiracy that once targeted him is now focusing on President Barack Obama.
The ex-president made the comment in a television interview when he was asked about one of the signature moments of the Monica Lewinsky affair over a decade ago. Back then, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton used the term “vast, right-wing conspiracy” to describe how her husband’s political enemies were out to destroy his presidency.
Bill Clinton was asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” whether the conspiracy is still there. He replied: “You bet. Sure it is. It’s not as strong as it was because America has changed demographically. But it’s as virulent as it was.”
Clinton said that this time around, the focus is on Obama and “their agenda seems to be wanting him to fail.”
Heaven forefend that a good meme be allowed to die.
And of course, we are all wondering what the meaning of Obama’s “is” is e.g., does “illegal immigrants” mean “illegal aliens” and vice versa?
Clinton continues to be a fool, this time for Obama and not himself.
GM, if it gets him publicity, he will always be.
“Vast right-wing conspiracy” – it’s called people who don’t think the government should run everything. There is no special group of people who are “out to destroy” the left, it’s just regular Americans who buy into the Constitution as-is (rather than the “living, breathing” version) and the values of the Founding Fathers. Of course, all of us are “out to get” liberals and progressives like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama rather than simply standing on our principles. Since the left cannot understand that big government is about corruption instead of the protection of individual rights, they are literally boggled by the right’s refusal to buy into the “government knows best” argument. Social justice cannot be delivered by increased control and power of the few, but try telling that to liberals and you become the enemy – racist, stupid, uneducated, and “out to get” them. The government is best at injustice. Use real-life current and historical events to defend that point of view, and a liberal will excuse him or herself from the discussion, claiming that you are simply too ignorant to talk to.
In fact, I truly wish there were a vast, right-wing conspiracy to keep people free from big government. We would be in a lot better shape right now. However the only conspiracy there is comes from the left in their “we want to take care of you” approach, which is really “we want to control you.”
Great posting, Fausta!
I wasn’t a fan of the way the Right massacred Clinton’s morality for the Lewinski affair — I saw it more as a personal marital problem, that had little to do with the way Clinton governed. I thought it was missing a more important political issue: how the affair could have been used to blackmail Clinton by one of America’s enemies and compromise the security of the U.S. and the integrity of the Presidency.
Of course Clinton is wrong when he compares what happened to him with the popular criticism of Obama. Nobody is attacking Obama on personal issues, they are criticizing his policies. A perfectly legitmate activity.
