1. The dance seems like, if done properly, it is as precise as a gymnastics routine. Are the participants just “hitting their marks,” or are the going to bury something in something the minute the music stops?

It’s a series of precise steps, but improvised. Nobody’s ‘hitting their marks’ as they do in choreographed dance such as ballet, but at the same time, most people do not “bury something in something the minute the music stops”. It’s just a dance, after all.
