UPDATE
Venezuelan blogger Alexis Marrero has been arrested, and his home was raided.
At Reuters, Venezuela begins shutdown of 34 radio stations
UPDATE, Sunday August 2
Chávez says “we didn’t close the stations, we recovered them for the people.” While he was at it, he also announced the government’s takeover of storage facilities at the ports of Puerto Cabello, Maracaibo and La Guaira.
The revolution’s rolling right along.
Where the heck are Insulza, Hillary Clinton and many others who cried coup d’etat in Honduras?
That’s different, Rodrigo. Obviously, our troubles with Venezuela were caused by the clumsy, black-and-white diplomacy of the neocon BushChimpHitler administration. Now we’re using the sophisticated, nuanced Smart Power(tm) of the unclenched fist.
Excuse me, I need to go wash my mouth out after writing that.
Carbolic acid for the fingertips?
I suppose that “some” will see the arrest of someone who disagrees with them as a righteous blow against the “oligarchs”. If W did a 10th of the things that H has done, we’d never hear the end of it. But since it’s their preferred peronista oligarch that’s just peachy
Those who took the time to figure out who this man really is already have fled Venezuela… and warned others.
Those who chose not to believe it… well, “Se lo advertimos… ¿o no?“
“CNB seguirá luchando por la libertad de expresión”
CNB 102.3 FM- Caracas is still broadcasting. The owner says “that CNB would continue to fight for freedom of expression for all Venezuelans and against the laws affecting the right to freedom of expression in Venezuela.” (per translation) In America, you can put on pink and shout from the rooftop that you hate George Bush and not have to fear any consequences. How different true protest is in such places as the streets of Iran, Tianamen square, and in a radio station in Caracas.
> Carbolic acid for the fingertips?
Lysol and a good fungicide are probably adequate. Radical amputation at the elbows is indicated and reserved for only the most extreme cases.
I think I’ll send myself to bed without supper, instead.
Even if the oligarch argument were to be made, it certainly doesn’t apply to the vast majority of the Venezuelan blogosphere, con todo respeto. But, the chavistas don’t make that distinction anyway; if an individual doesn’t fall lock in step with the latest absurdity belched from the mouth of Chávez and his minions, then surely he is an oligarch paid off by the CIA who has regular conversations with Bush. *rolls eyes*
It gets worse. Venezuelan blogger detained.
