In today’s podcast at 11AM Eastern:
Venezuelans Protest Journalist Beatings, and Chavez’s tirade in his latest cadena, Chavez says Obama “lost in space” on Latin America. About the nicest thing Chavez came up with was “Yankee go home,” but there was a lot more. Allow me to remind you that
Despite Chavez’s frequent tirades against U.S. imperialism, the United States remains the main client for Venezuelan oil.

In all honesty, this is utterly irrelevant. As a commodity, oil is fully “fungible”, which means it really, really doesn’t matter where you get it from. If you switch all your contracts to get your oil from, say, Indonesia and Southeast Asia, then whoever was getting that oil will just switch their contracts to Venezuela. It literally does not really matter which company you buy your oil from in terms of “who you want to do business with”, beyond whatever minor conscience things (which you should grasp are, as defined above, defacto irrelevant) you insist on holding onto.
The oil industry truly reflects Jeffersonian Commerce:
“Money, not morality, is the principle commerce of civilized nations”
– Thomas Jefferson –
.
You’re partially right. While oil is a fungible asset, Citgo and Petro Express are owned by Chavez’s nationalized oil company.
