Will Sarah Palin become the next Ross Perot?

Palin to Quit as Alaska Governor, Won’t Seek Re-Election

Sarah Palin said Friday that she won’t run for a second term as governor of Alaska and will transfer her responsibilities to the state’s lieutenant governor.

Here is her statement:

“I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is not the easiest path,” said Governor Palin after the announcement. “Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional ‘Lame Duck’ status in this particular climate would just be another dose of ‘politics as usual,’ something I campaigned against and will always oppose. It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success. I look forward to helping others – to fight for our state and our country, and campaign for those who believe in smaller government, free enterprise, strong national security, support for our troops, and energy independence.”

Look, I sure hope she has a huge ace up her sleeve because from here it sure looks like a Perot-like maneuver. In Jonah Goldberg’s words, “You’re blowing it”.

Her political career is not going to recover from this.

The Anchoress basically agrees.

UPDATE
Instapundit mini-roundup.

Liberals never learn, do they? Doug has the back story on that.

Francis is heartbroken but takes no prisoners.

GM Roper ponders Palin derangement syndrome.

Ace:

It’s over. You can’t resign from a governorship and then run for higher office. Barring some strong reason, like needing treatment for cancer.

A contrarian view: No, Of Course Palin’s Political Career Isn’t Over

    In no way.
Ross ran against an incumbent, split the conservative ticket (guilty) and helped usher in the Clintons.
If the RINO herd doesn’t get with the effing program and welcome her aboard, then far more than the 2012 election is lost.

I’m of the opinion that Gov. Palin does what’s best, in this case for her family and state, and puts future ambitions on the back burner. She can deal with typical liberal fallout in the future if she wants, but she can ignore them, too, and move on to a nicer life await from those with Palin Derangement Syndrome.

The consequence of her decision is that can be less coverage. Whatever her true reasons for stepping off the stage, she now has the freedom to choose a new path. I expect she will, and we’ll see a well conditioned political athlete ready for 2012.

But she’s no Perot – she’s a Republican and staying one. She’s run the gauntlet over the last two years, she’s earned her stripes. America might just come to trust her if Obama’s foolhardy plans terribly hurt the country.

More information on “grassroots” supporters gathering across the nation to support Sarah Palin for President in 2012 can be found online at http://www.palin4pres2012.com

Note, the website is in danger of crashing due to the flood of readers and supporters signing up to show their interest in a Palin Candidacy. The GOP establishment had better watch out, Sarah Palin and Ron Paul combined with the power of the internet will remove the stranglehold of GOP special interests and the elites who have brought the party to its knees in defeat in the 2008 elections.

Well, at least according to the above photo she would be a good Subway spokesperson.

Palin’s move puts yet more pressure on Obama to finally get some results, as the soaring rhetoric isn’t hypnotizing the plebes like it used to. This week Helen Thomas, Colin Powell, and Warren Buffet all turned on him. Polls are looking droopy for The One lately.

Obama’s porkulus program is a train wreck, all it’s done is bump interest rates and tank the dollar. We are being laughed at by bad guys like Tehran, Pyongyang, and Al Qaida who amazingly turned-down Barack’s friend-requests.

Palin could trounce him in 2012, when Americans would vote for the Gipper-in-Heels in droves- while begging for lower taxes, free enterpise, a defense posture with some backbone- and an end to the radical, anti-American nightmare we’ve got now.

    Go get ‘em Sarah-

Fausta, thank god I don’t rely on you for political strategy. I hope no one else does, either, especially someone professional.
