I was researching an article for Real Clear World when I came across this:
Hugo Chavez is on a state visit to Colombia,
In a press conference he said “trust had been restored” between the two countries. That’s the sort of thing one expects. He also claims to not support the FARC.
What was different? He’s now saying “let’s not hurt each other.”
Nothing like a trip abroad to a different audience to change the tune when it’s not intended for domestic consumption…
Maybe one of those military advisers that Chavez’s Russian comrades sent took one look at his military preparedness and advised soto voce “Not now!”
Or collapsing oil prices have made him cautious for the moment.
Chavez at least has the presence of mind to realize that if the two nations were to go to war, Venezuela would not have a chance. Venezuela hasn’t fought a foreign war since the early part of the 19th century; Colombia has been fighting the FARC for almost 45 years. Plus, have you seen the pics of Venezuelan generals? Dan risa…
I am Colombian and Chavez is a nut who cannot be trusted
