Obama says he hopes to help ‘reboot America’s image around the world’
Barack Obama says his presidency is an opportunity for the United States to spread a message of tolerance, starting the day of his inauguration and continuing with a speech he plans to deliver somewhere in the Muslim world.
And when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20, he plans to be sworn in like other presidents, using his full name: Barack Hussein Obama.
“I think we’ve got a unique opportunity to reboot America’s image around the world and also in the Muslim world in particular,” Obama said Tuesday, promising an “unrelenting” desire to “create a relationship of mutual respect and partnership in countries and with peoples of goodwill who want their citizens and ours to prosper together.”
The world, he said, “is ready for that message.”
I wish him good luck with the people of good will. It’s a good approach as long as Obama doesn’t lose sight of America’s best interest. However, experience teaches us that, even when expressing sympathy as Le Monde’s editorial saying “We’re all Americans now”, they also blame the US for every darn thing that goes wrong.
As to Islamists, no chance of that. One waits for oppresive regimes of the Muslim world to “reboot” their respective images. The world is ready for that message.
Soccer Dad wants Obama to boycott Durban.
Update
The whole camel.
What needs “rebooting” is the world’s attitude toward America and the threats we all face. I hope we aren’t about to find ourselves facing four years of another “Apologizer in Chief.” 🙁
A la Jimmy Carter, Anthony.
I’m a former IT guy. To reboot means to wipe the memory clean and re-install the operating system (no matter how faulty it may have been at the start) IMHO, we have done more for the world in our latter history than our former. Obama’s is obviously a poor analogy.
