The Dems float yet another Kennedy to take a vacant Senate seat.
No, not Caroline for New York. This time is Chris Kennedy for Illinois, to fill Obama’s vacant Senate seat.
Don casts a jaundiced eye:
With Sen. Robert C. Byrd, 91, approaching his 50th anniversary in the Senate (56th in Congress) maybe one of those Kennedy guys or gals can move down here to replace him eventually?
In fact, there are so many of them, why don’t we just have one represent each state?
Ask not what your state can do for you, ask what your state can do for the Kennedys.
Not that the Dems believe in dynasties or any such thing. No. It’s just that they don’t want to hold a special election and can’t find anyone with good name recognition in Illinois who’s not about to be or already has been indicted or under investigation.
I wonder, though, which Kennedys live in West Virginia.
Well, you haven’t got it quite right. The reporting from outside Illinois, has been, understandably, at a loss to understand the motivations. The legislature wants and will support a special election. This is a move by the unpopular Lt. Governor Quinn who is trying to shore up his recently re-awakened dream of the Governorship in 2010.
I explain more in a post on the subject.

You cannot understand Illinois political machinations if you think Dem and Repub from the national perspective. You have to know the local players and their interests to get it.
From Vaughan Meador’s First Family comedy album spoofing President Kennedy, which was a big hit when JFK was alive.
“This is a public service announcement.Vote for the Kennedy of your choice, but VOTE.”
It does seem that floating and the Kennedy name do go together. Patrick Kennedy probably erred when he hit the security barrier because he thought he was sailing at Martha’s Vineyard where hitting and leaving things floating in the water is the norm.
