I was browsing around twitter and I saw your editorial on the packet article “Sorry, but Princeton is not hip; even worse, we’re not cool”.
I can relate to your friend. I’m a woman in my mid-20’s who moved from NYC to Princeton. Princeton is a gorgeous town, and I love walking out of my building, and smelling fresh air. However, for a young single person who does not see having children or getting married anytime soon, it’s not a good place to be.
I think that if Princeton wants to be the hip/young/cool place in NJ, this is what they should be doing in addition to what you mentioned:
1. More access to Mass Tranist/Zipcars. I love how cheap the bus is, but it doesn’t run enough (most of the lines end at 10pm)! The ZipCars are great too, but they need a few more in the area.
2. Delis/Restaurants/CoffeeHouses stay open later. As much as I like Triumph, I’d rather do my socializing in Small World or even Zorbas. If I knew they would stay open later, I’d be more likely to frequent them.
While I’m married and older, I agree with the coffehouses & delis to stay open later. It’d be nice to have a place to go to late in the evening, not just at Triumph.
Fausta, are you speaking about Triumph Brewing Co.? I’m a huge fan of Krogh’s in Sparta and Trap Rock in Berkeley Heights. I admit – I’m a microbrew-brewpub fan – but not a recovering one!

Yes – Triumph in downtown Princeton, but we’ve visited Krogh & Trap Rock, too.
Microbrews are a great thing!
