Never letting the facts interfere with his fantasy, Obama’s put out this, where he says that McCain is two-faced when it comes to immigration:
The Trail translated
“They want us to forget the insults we’ve put up with, the intolerance,” the television ad’s announcer says in Spanish as a picture of Rush Limbaugh appears onscreen with quotes of him saying, “Mexicans are stupid and unqualified” and “Shut your mouth or get out.”
Since when is Rush Limbaugh running for office? But I digress.
“They made us feel marginalized in a country we love so much,” the ad continues. “John McCain and his Republican friends have two faces. One that says lies just to get our vote and another, even worse, that continues the failed policies of George Bush that put special interests ahead of working families.”
The companion radio ad uses the same script as above and then continues:
“Don’t forget that John McCain abandoned us rather than confront the leaders of the Republican Party. Many of us were born here, and others came to work and achieve a better life for their families — not to commit crimes or drain the system like many of John McCain’s friends claim. Let’s not be fooled by political tricks from John McCain and the Republicans. Vote so they respect us. Vote for a change.”
As always, the O’campaign can’t be bothered to notice that McCain has been (and continues to be) severely criticized within his own party (Limbaugh being one of the loudest critics) for his immigration reform bill. Of course, if Obama had half a clue, he’d know the material attributed to Limbaugh is from a parody of Mexican immigration laws.
It just doesn’t fit their narrative.
Here’s the McCain ad, in English,
Here’s a bit of advice to the McCain campaign, if you really want to reach Hispanic voters, publicize widely Obama’s position on abortion and his profoundly immoral objection to the legislation protecting infants who survive abortion. THAT will get you Hispanic voters to your side.
UPDATE, Thursday 18 September:
On the hacked Palin email accounts, Moe adds a PS to his post Well, Senator Obama, at least you don’t have to blame *yourself* for the bad timing.
This time.
Don’t even think about whining about the question being
asked, Senator.
You send out
people to disrupt radio interviews with the verbal equivalent of
DOS attacks. And you had better hope that your little DNC anti-Palin packet isn’t on anybody’s confiscated hard drive – or, better, not-quite deleted from same. Because things
are serious, now.
Tienes toda la razon; Obama es un comemierda y va a perder muy mal. Gracias a Dios, tenemos a John McCain y su Sarah Palin para combatar la estupidez de Obama.
I’m not too sure that the recommendation would have much success because the Republicans in California have been trying that approach for years. What seems to work are the old standbys of patriotism, jobs and if it can finessed the issue of racial identity politics in the Democratic party. But another vein of voters that are worth chasing are the newer pentacostalist and charismatic Protestant Latinos that have almost completely rejected their former culture and find themselves thinking of themselves as Americans solely and not as hyphenates.
As an example I coached several Latino track athletes in the 80’s and 90’s and aside from learning rudimentary Spanish and that General Santa Anna was bribed at San Jacinto I still assumed that most were Catholic and liberal. One day, after practice, I was asking about some philosphical element of Catholicism and was told that they had no idea what I was talking about because they, and I mean all of them, were Protestant and many of them were even anti-Catholic. All of them were college graduates, all still spoke Spanish, all thought Mexico was a nice place to visit relatives but basically corrupt and useless, all were extremely patriotic and most counterintuitive were all still registered Democrats like their parents but mostly voted the straight Republican ticket.
But this, even though estimates run as high as 30-40% of Latinos in California, is a tough group to reach without a lot of work. Most have little interest in politics because they don’t trust the professional Latino politicians where they live, work in white collar professions and most importantly are reticent about their beliefs because of the social pressure of their communities to conform. But if I was that Double Secret Campaign Advisor to Sen. McCain I would have my volunteers start hanging around the outside of all those little charismatic storefront churches that are on all the Cesar Chavez Avenues in the US.
I agree with you Pat, and as a Californian, I’ve watched the Republican party just bang its head against the wall here. But this ad is audaciously dishonest, and it makes me wonder if “taking the gloves off” meant throwing out any semblance of decency for Obama. I really how he’s held to account for this – it makes him appear quite desperate…
