Pero muchacha, you don’t have to stay in NJ! There are plenty of places where you don’t have to pay a toll for using a highway.
In South TX, at least not yet!

You’re right, Newton – my friend moved from Convent Station NJ to Dallas TX, and after not having to pay state income tax, highway tolls and property taxes as high as NJ’s, she trying to talk me into moving there.
She may succeed.

And not just Dallas: Houston, San Antonio and Austin are nice places, too. You will get a lot more house for your money, too.
A couple of years ago, the sig.other and I went to The Alamo and the Riverwalk as part of a project for my niece (who lives in Long Island). During our Riverwalk boat tour, the driver told us about the many newcomers from NY who visit the area and then move in afterwards, leaving the Northeast behind. In fact, the SA Convention and Visitors Bureau has noticed that exact trend.
Then, she told us all, while driving her little Riverwalk boat, that she’s one of those New Yorkers. Curious, I chatted with her afterwards. It turns out that she’s actually from White Plains and (after I showed her my college ring) that her grandmother graduated from my same college! Imagine that!
One more thing that I’ve noticed in my area: a lot of license plates from Northeastern states, Michigan in particular, and not just among the Snowbirds who come to South TX during the winter.
Convinced yet?

You are convincing, Newton, you are certainly convincing me… 🙂
