Gustavo Coronel: CHAVEZ THUGS ATTACK UNIVERSITIES ALL OVER VENEZUELA
Reacting violently against peaceful protests of university students bands of thugs controlled by the chavez regime, with masks and guns, invaded the Venezuelan universities in a concerted effort today, shooting at least one student dead and wounding at least a dozen others. These violent attacks have taken place in Caracas, in San Cristobal, in Merida and other Venezuelan cities and seem to demonstrate that Chavez has decided to start a large scale repression against the Venezuelan people who oppose his pretensions to become president for life.
Globovision television, which is openly critical of the government, showed images of hooded men throwing objects into university classes and other people, apparently students, running away.
Civil defence chief Antonio Rivero said at least eight people were hurt, one of them by gunfire.
Soldiers used tear gas, plastic bullets and water cannons to scatter tens of thousands who massed Thursday to protest constitutional reforms that would permit Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to run for re-election indefinitely.
Photographers for The Associated Press saw at least four gunmen _ their faces covered by ski masks or T-shirts _ firing handguns at the anti-Chavez crowd at the UCV. Terrified students ran through the campus as ambulances arrived.
Antonio Rivero, director of Venezuela’s Civil Defense agency, told Union Radio that at least eight people were injured, including one by gunfire, and that no one had been killed. Earlier, Rivero said he had been informed that one person had died in the violence.
Venezuela News and Views: Another day of state sponsored violence in Venezuela
First, the picture from where the thugs waited for something foul. Observe that the doors of the room are covered with SI posters, probably some pro Chavez meeting room within the UCV which speaks of the tolerance until today when chavismo broke it. You can also observe that the words of Carreño are already contradicted there: if chavista students were threatened by the lynching mob (yes, those were the ignoble terms used by Carreño) they certainly would like to show their faces to ask for help. But no, they are hooded, and holding big guns, unavailable and forbidden in campus.
Below images of the shooters on the left, trying to push a door open to shoot at the students as well as a lone man with a gun and hooded face shooting at the students. There are videos that should reveal more later on. For now, just note that the student on the right has a gas mask on and a t-shirt that says “NO” to the Constitutional reform, clearly coming from the march. One of the guys on the left trying to push the door open has a gun and is trying to shoot them. Who do you think is the aggressor here?
Venezuelan student protesters were fired on, resulting in two gun-shot injuries, when they returned to campus today from a march opposing President Hugo Chavez’s plan to rewrite the nation’s constitution.
Seven more victims suffered other injuries, according to university official. Local television station Globovision broadcast images of protesters running for cover during the incident on the campus of the Universidad Central de Venezuela. One image showed a man in a black leather jacket firing a pistol twice. Interior Minister Pedro Carreno said at 7:10 p.m. New York time that the situation was under control.
