The recently-expanded European Union has a population of approx. 300 million people, so imagine my surprise when I read this: How many little nations does Europe really need?
The Council of Europe, which claims on its website to represent “800 million Europeans,” has 46 member states.
some of which are not in Europe, particularly if you include the Observers to the Committee of Ministers (Canada, Japan, Mexico, and the United States of America)and the National Parliaments Observers to the Parliamentary Assembly (Canada again, Israel and Mexico). We’re all Europeans, in their definition.
