Ceuta and Melilla, again
Following last week’s storming of the fence at Ceuta where five illegal migrants died, yesterday Several hundred African would-be immigrants have stormed a barrier on the border of the Spanish enclave of Melilla in Morocco. Just that Tuesday Spain had asked the EU for strict policy against illegal immigration:
Spain, faced with waves of Africans trying to enter their territory, said on Tuesday the European Union must adopt a strict policy against illegal immigration. Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said the EU had an obligation to help migrants in need but also to protect itself from those who want to destroy its values and freedoms.
As I had mentioned in my prior post (see link above), last May Spain had granted amnesty to nearly 700,000 illegal immigrants, for which
Spain was royally rapped on the knuckles for its unilateral action at a recent meeting of the interior ministers of the G5 – Europe’s five wealthiest nations.
