A Harry Potter 7 theory
SPOILER ALERT: You might want to skip this one if you haven’t finished HP6.
Item: From Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Book 1), page 137, Snape speaks to his class,
. . . I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death”
From Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6), page 580,
“We need to get you up to the school, sir . . . Madame Pomfrey . . .”
“No,” said Dumbledore. It is . . . Professor Snape whom I need . . .”
Item: Book six, page 591: Dumbledore and Draco:
“. . . I can help you, Draco”
“No, you can’t.”, said Malfoy, his wnd shaking very badly indeed. “Nobody can. He told me to do it or he’ll kill me. I’ve got no choice.”
“He cannot kill you if you are already dead. Come over to the right side, and we can hide you more completely than you can possibly imagine. What is more, I can send members of the Order to your mother tonight to hide her likewise. Nobody would be surprised that you ahd died in your attempt to kill me — forgive me, but Lord Valdemort probably expects it. Nor would the Death Eaters be surprised that we had captured and killed your mother — it is what they would do themselves, after all.”
Item: The theme of the phoenix permeating all 6 books. Dumbledore is the keeper of the phoenix. Read book 6, page 645, paragraph 3, which starts with “Then several people screamed . . .
Harry thought, for one heart-stopping moment, that he saw a phoenix fly joyfully into the blue, but the next second the fire had vanished”
My theory is that D’s gone underground but needed S’s spell to make it look convincing: a spell to simulate death, from the potions’ master, reminiscent of Juliet’s potion. Or, that the potion at the cave was S’s potion since the locket had been replaced and possibly so had the original potion, and that’s why it was necessary that S kill D (so S’s potion would counter S’s own lethal spell). S remains undercover because of this ability as an Occlumen, and book 7 will take place outside of Hogwarts.
Will have to wait 3 years to find out (I expect book 7 won’t be out until after the film of book 6 is released, which will take some 3 years or so), won’t I!
