A letter, replied, updated
Yesterday Michel Barnier, France’s Foreign Minister, published Our Oldest Enemy: A History of America’s Disastrous Relationship with France, replies (link from Maria), and concludes with “What matters much more than words — including words written in letter to America — are deeds. Let France make the first move.”
Mr. Barnier would also be well served to explore some of his countrymen’s attitudes as expressed in Le Monde, which you can find translated in The Legend of the Squandered Sympathy (with images) and American Beheaders or How a Publicly-Financed Franco-German “Cultural” Channel Creates Moral Equivalence between America and its Enemies.
Until then, Mr. Barnier’s words add up to tant pis.
