Anti-Americanism in Spain
. . . examined by the brilliant Barcepundit:
In any case, I wonder how someone against regime change via war can also be against peaceful regime change (engagement, pressure plus a targeted decapitation, perhaps). Maybe it’s just the Revel rule: “reproaching the United States for some shortcoming, and then for its opposite … a convincing sign that we are in the presence not of rational analysis, but of obsession.”
My family came from Spain, and I take the view that it’s not surprising that the right and the left join in on the same anti-American chord. As Hayek said, totallitarianism manifests itself as both fascism and communism. Which is probably why my grandparents, great admirers of democracy, despised Franco and Stalin.
