From Roberto’s DynamoBuzz, updated
Turnout in NJ was 300,000 higher this year and Bush got 300,000 more votes. Therefore, you could conclude that the higher turnout this year in New Jersey was Bush voters. I know many Bush supporters in New Jersey, and almost all of us thought the chance of Bush winning this state was a longshot, but we were motivated by the viciousness of this campaign to get out and vote. I know I was. We also thought adding votes to Bush’s popular vote total would help him in the legitimacy contest if the election was contested. I think the fact that Bush got over 3.5 million more votes than Kerry nationally helped dampen the enthusiasm for a long drawn out court battle in Ohio.
So my theory is that all this talk about “enthused” Jersey voters walking over hot coals and broken glass to vote for John Kerry is spin. The NJ media was all worked up with Kerry fever, and they went out and found anecdotal evidence to back up thier story. The truly enthused voters in New Jersey were the Bush voters, but given the voter demographics in this state there just weren’t enough of us to swing the state. As I said below, a potted plant will get votes in this state if it’s in the democrat column.
Roberto also points out that “In 10 days NJ governor Jim McGreevey is supposed to resign.” I certainly hope so. Will Corzine run for governor next year?
Update The moving van was at Drumthwacket for over six hours yesterday. (6 hours?! That’s a large move.) Apparently McGreevey will move to an apartment in Rahway and Mrs. McG and daughter to a single-family house in Springfield.
