France for beginners
When in France, bear in mind that you might get busted for demonstrating in favor of the USA on D-Day. (via Samizdata. The guy in the photo is Erik from ¡No Pasarán!).
When in France, don’t become alarmed when the natives greet you with too much enthusiasm. After all, they’re French.
When in France, if you are a woman, some icky natives might actually put their lips on your knuckles. Don’t bother explaining to them that the lips aren’t supposed to actually come into contact with a lady’s hands. After all, they’re French.
When in France, bear in mind that “Liberty, fraternity, and equality” is a rather quaint old motto, but what matters is peace, security and development/stability, and having just enough to eat. That probably explains why, when in France, American flags were not displayed in Paris on D-Day (except for these), but instead they displayed the flag of the European union.
