Eric Massa’s Wild Ride, or It’s Not Easy Being Green (in 4 Cars)

Tom Lehrer, the Harvard mathematician turned satirist, reportedly retired from the latter profession because politics had become a satire of itself in the 1970s. Eric Massa, the Congressman from New York’s 29th District, decided to demonstrate Lehrer’s continuing wisdom. He wanted to promote hydrogen-fueled vehicles as an answer to ending greenhouse-gas emissions, and so planned to drive himself to Washington DC in a GM model for publicity. However, Massa’s green ride got a big-time boost from two enormous SUVs

It went down from there. Or should I say, uphill from there?

Designer Judd Will Be Showing Off a Coat of Many Colorful Obama Posters
. I wouldn’t wear a coat of many colorful Obama posters, but at least they’re not hazardous. Some of the creations require a tetanus shot. From the captions in the slide show:

1930s-style red evening gown from the previous slide. The dress is made from upholstery fabric and 12,000 glued-on pieces of crushed glass. The dress occasionally sheds, so it might be smart to bring Band-Aids on a night out.

Wouldn’t want to sit wearing that dress, but that’s nothing compared to this one:

One of her favorite creations is a short dress made from canvas scraps and hundreds of rusty nails. She said the clicking nails on the dress remind her of a percussion instrument. The sewed-on nails came from a local import-export business.

For inagural formal apparel, attendees with lots of money and better taste might want to consider this elegant gown from Carolina Herrera.

Judd also made

a coat from stiffly lacquered Obama campaign fliers. Ms. Judd got Mr. Obama’s measurements online, in the hopes that he may wear it someday.

But hopefully not in public.
Stick to Hickey-Freeman, Obama!
