Mad Men Sunday: The Brooks Brothers suit

Last week Betty found out she’s really married to a Dick rather than a Don, but even then everybody looked mahveloss.
Surprisingly, it took three seasons for Brooks Brothers to come up with this,
Suit up like a ’60s Mad Man, limited edition of 250 suits, available until Nov. 8, the season finale.

As you can see, the Brooks Brothers suit is a near-replica (except for the pocket flaps) of Cary Grant’s suit in North By Northwest:

It seems like a rather long video clip just to show off a suit. Then Hitch did have an eye for blonds. I like Grace Kelly best and Rear Window.

Wow! One wonders to whom (who) they’re marketing that suit (to). Check out the “drop” – the difference between the chest and the waist. Cary Grant’s version wasn’t cut like that.

There are only 63 people in the world that would recognize that suit from the movie. You, me and 61 others.

Nolan, yes, even Brooks Bros. have been influenced by the Italians. I do like Cary’s a lot – very American classic look.
GM,
You, me and 61 others
and the odds are that we all are in contact with each other!

Alas, David, I haven’t learned yet how to cut a YouTube clip. You can see the suit in the first minute of the clip.
My hypothesis is that the Mad Men designers aim for a Cary Grant look for Don, and a Grace Kelly look for Betty.
