Weenie diplomacy with Iran still on
Who knows what kind of perverse reasoning or obfuscated moral compass makes anyone reach these depths, but here you have it:
US says hot dog diplomacy still on with Iran.
Yes, the hot dog diplomacy they were talking about before the Iranian government started shooting at and killing demonstrators, tear gassing them, beating them up with clubs and dragging off the hospital emergency rooms. The same Iranian government that killed Neda last Saturday.
Anyway, here’s the article:
The United States said Monday its invitations were still standing for Iranian diplomats to attend July 4 celebrations at US embassies despite the crackdown on opposition supporters.President Barack Obama’s administration said earlier this month it would invite Iran to US embassy barbecues for the national holiday for the first time since the two nations severed relations following the 1979 Islamic revolution.
“There’s no thought to rescinding the invitations to Iranian diplomats,” State Department spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters.
And the punch line:
The State Department has said that the invitations are largely a symbolic gesture of goodwill
Symbolic? How’s this for SYMBOLIC? Look:
WARNING: Disturbing and graphic video
Now imagine yourself among the courageous people being shot at who faced down the guns in this video,
and tell me how you would welcome the news of the US inviting your oppressors for a “symbolic gesture of goodwil” weenie roast.
As Say Anything put it,
Because nothing invokes the true spirit of the freedom, liberty and independence enshrined in the Declaration of Independence and the founding of America like representatives of a murderous theocracy.
Shameful.
UDPATE Ed, liveblogging today’s press conference:
12:49 – Garrett asks whether Iranian diplomats are still welcome to State Dept 4th of July celebrations. Obama says, “That’s a choice the Iranians have to make.” Weenie diplomacy still on!

Goodwill, eh? Towards whom? Not the people of Iran, I assume. There is one question I can never answer: who is worse the State Department or our own Foreign Office? Depends who is talking, I suppose.

Jeez, don’t you understand protocol and nuance?

It started as a another secret service coup, a colour coded revolution of the kind we have seen in Eastern Europe (further reading, Georgia’s summer war), to put the U.S. candidate Mousavi in power and so continue Pax Americana’s long and fruitful collaboration with radical Islam (further reading: Operation Cyclone, Iran Contra scandal, Iranian arming of Jihadists in the Balkans, the attempted criminalisation of the PMOI – Iran’s only significant opposition group). But now after the Iranian state’s fearsome crackdown it has much become bigger than that. The Iranian protesters are, as fate would have it, calling America’s bluff about “Freedom and Democracy”. America can’t deliver on this because Iran is a crucial part of the Eurasian strategy, the “Grand Chessboard” as Zbigniew Brzezinski called in the his book of the same name.

What on earth is Daddy Warhol prattling about? It is obvious he has not read one single report or seen one video of what is happening in Iran. It is a spontaneous movement of the people and it is directly linked to the 1979 revolution (same players and same rule book).
Nico Pitney asked a great question and he is doing a great job at the HuffPo with his live blogging of the crisis. That question was posed by Iranian people who had been in contact with him. Nico deserves a lot of accolades for his reporting on the subject.

Well, Daddy did leave out the involvement of the AFL-CIO, the UAW and George Soros in his comment. But then that would destroy the idea that this is some kind of plot by the running dogs of capitalism nicknamed the “Grand Cheeseboard.”

[...] Yesterday’s O-presser was a little interesting. The White House seems to be doing what I predicted the other day; they’re suggesting that the so-so Cairo speech was the impetus for the popular uprising in Iran. Funny how that worked out. When the president finally figured out what was the right side to be on, then it was the side he’d always vociferously been on, and in fact, he caused the whole thing to happen. But the Weenee diplomacy is still on. [...]
