Guatemala: The Twitter arrest and the Rosenberg murder
A new development, somewhat related to the strange case of Rodrigo Rosenberg, Twitter http://twitter.com/jeanfer has been arrested for twittering on the case:

One minute, you’re telling people “what you are doing,” the next minute, you’re getting hauled off to jail. That’s what happened to a man in Guatemala who police say could have “incited a panic” with his viral Tweeting.Jean Ramses Anleu Fernandez was taken into custody after suggesting on Twitter that everyone who had money in the Banrural bank should withdraw it all. The reason?: “to break the control that corrupt entities” have over the state-run bank.
Sounds innocent enough until you know the background. Long story short – the bank has been at the center of a political controversy that has involved the murders of an attorney and a finance expert, as well as accusations that the government has been complicit in those crimes. One of the victims even recorded a video warning of his impending death.
Banrural is the bank that Rodrigo Rosenberg, who was killed last Sunday while riding his bicycle, advised his client Khalil Musa not to join the board of directors. Rosenberg, in the video released after his murder, claims that Musa and his daughter were killed after Musa refused to take part in money laundering and other criminal activity at the bank. No arrests have been made in the three murders.
U.S. officials in Guatemala confirm that the FBI is investigating Rosenberg’s murder:
”This is one of the most dangerous countries in the world,” said Jose Rodriguez, who rallied against Colom. “Anything is possible.”Gangs and drug traffickers have turned Guatemala into one of Latin America’s most dangerous countries. Still struggling with the aftermath of a 36-year civil war that claimed 200,000 lives, the country counts an average of 18 murders a day, making its homicide rate more than eight times that of the United States.
Only 2 percent of crimes go solved, according to the United Nations.
But back to jeanfer, he has not tweeted since yesterday at 2:39AM.

Prensa Libre has a photo of http://twitter.com/jeanfer being fingerprinted at the police station. He was accused of creating a financial panic.
Jeanfer was sentenced to a $6,500 fine, and will be held in jail until he can raise the amount. Here is his blog El blog de jeanfer

Who thought the area of political and social repression was over in Guatemala?
It is very dissapointing to see how the roots of decades of political struggle – which go back to the U.S. coup to oust Arbenz from Guatemalan presidency – amount to more governmental corruption and repression against the common man who believes in the right to political participation because he yearns for peace and respect in order to attain his drems in life.
In Guatemala, there is really no difference in being a leftist or from the extreme right. All our elected presidents have proven to belong to an elitist and racist mafia that can’t be penetrated with justice and the rule of law. They and their friends create the law and are the law. Political favoritism rules and unfortunately everyone now needs to watch out for kidnappings, murderers, bus pilot murders, and now personal opinions posted on the Internet.

Sin duda lo que le paso a Jeanfer molesto a muchos pero será prudente hablar de algo que no nos conviene y que como dicen no tenemos vela en este entierro que debemos hacer pues opinar al respecto en primera que nos importe en segundo que sepamos de que se esta hablando y no hablar imprudentemente e informarnos mas del asunto no creen?

Si banrural nos brindara la completa ayuda como se necesita toda Guatemala estaría fuera de tantas cosas que no se sabe ni el porque el presidente las trajo, y no solo eso si no que día a día cambiara y fuéramos muy diferentes

En lo que a mi respecta Rosenberg fue utilizado y solo fue una victima más de este macabro Gobierno que lo unico que le interesa es el poder ya que en Guatemala se pelean como chuchos por un hueso igual que el poder

Este Jeanfer comento o ataco a este Banco creo que fue ni critica ni comentario si no fue una forma de dañar este banco es algo mal intencionaba por que uno debe meterse en lo que lo que a uno le afecta como persona pero este solo lo hizo por fregar sin saber que esto tenia consecuencias

Es claro que fue asesinado a sangre fría pero la pregunta sigue siendo por que nunca se cuido?? sera que una persona normal que sabe que esta amenazada de muerte por que no se cuida?? Es solo una interrogante por que su muerte fue muy obvia o muy fácil

La verdad llegara en un par de años pues es muy difícil probar algo ahora por que si es difícil probar que un delincuente sea culpable en Guatemala imagínense como probar si un presidente es culpable de algo simplemente es imposible

Tu forma de pensar Chatillo es como que muy chapina pero en cierta forma tienes razón por que Rosenberg acusa a varias personas entre ellas al presidente pero hay cosas en las que aun hay dudas y preguntas sin respuesta que solo Rosenberg podía haber respondido pero el se las llevo a la tumba
