AHMADINEJAD CANCELS TRIP TO BRAZIL – or hasn’t he? UPDATE: Trip cancelled

UPDATE, 5PM
Brazil’s Foreign Office has confirmed that the trip has been cancelled. O Globo reports that apparently Ahmadinejad requested that the visit be postponed after the Iranian elections in June. No reason was given for the cancellation.

Earlier today
I just got word that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has canceled his upcoming state visit to Brazil, which was scheduled for May 6 at President Lula’s invitation.

Brazilian blogger David Bor states that Terra.com.br made the announcement without stating a reason for the cancellation.

However, yesterday there were huge demonstrations throughout Brazil from Christian, Jewish, gay rights, women’s, and human rights groups protesting the invitation.

I’ll do a longer article on this news for Real Clear World once I have more details.

UPDATE
The latest reports state that the Iranian Embassy in Brazil stated Ahmadinejad will be visiting the country.

More news to follow.
