The revolution will be Twittered

John Culberson is twittering that he and 21 other Republican congressmen are

discussing gas prices and energy solutions, which the House was scheduled to do this afternoon already before Pelosi, et al declared an early adjournment.

Democrats shut down House to go on paid vacation, Republicans stay on floor, in dark, talking Energy to American people

TV cameras are not allowed, but Twitter goes when the cameras can’t.

Dan has more.

UPDATE
Pete Hoekstra‘s also Twittering!
The Crypt‘s liveblogging. 4:20PM The Republicans are saying they’re staying on the floor for as long as the people support them.

Update 2
From Kate

My brother, who works in the House, is on the floor right now. This is his e-mail to me:

Steve king from iowa now speaking. Ted poe just gave a great spontaneous speech to the crtowds of staff interns. Press and constituents. All sitting on the floor of the house of representatives, which we have been reminded today and are witnessing first hand as the peoples house.
Most members are now out having a press conference about what is going on because the cameras are turned off in here, the lights are almost all down and the microphones off.
The capitol is closed to the public but those that were in the gallery when it closed at 430 were invited and led down by some members to sit on the floor. It is an incredible event that is going on and we the people are calling upon the majority and speaker of the house to bring the house back and have a vote on energy.
Dr. Tom price (GA) has been taking the lead but others here include the minority whip roy blunt, eric cantor (va), virginia fox (nc), mike pence (in), kevin brady (tx) who was on a plane ready to leave when he heard what was going on and came back. Other members too have stopped leaving and came back to the capitol.
Truly an amazing thing that is happening here. No one ever remembers something like this happening before.
I’ll keep you updated on what else and who else is here.
Call the speaker to tell her you want a vote on energy! 202 225 0100

For those of you who have CSPAN 2, the press conference in Statuary Hall is being broadcast.

  2. My, What a Busy Day « Obi’s Sister Says:

[…] of her plans for America. No lights/no air conditioning/no power. Sorry, Nancy, but there is more than one way to skin a cat. New technology can be a bitch. The Democrats in Congress could care less that as they frolic home […]

  3. Obi's Sister Says:

I think we witnessed something extraordinary today. The beginning of the end of Pelsoi? We can only hope…!

  4. Fausta Says:

Maybe, Obi’s Sister, especially with the 9% approval rating, but there’s still a lot of fight in the old gal yet.

Still, she might have to get her facelift “refreshed” after all the frowning this probably caused her.

  5. Obi's Sister Says:

Hee. Let’s see…we’ve seen “Slightly Amused,” “Mildly Surprised,” “Astonished,” “Greatly Surprised,” “Startled,” “Incredulous” … maybe this go ’round we’ll get something big, like “Flabbergasted.”

Now that will be something to see!

  6. Fausta Says:

Her eyebrows will be reaching new heights!

  7. Pat Patterson Says:

The fact that this “occupation” ended precisely at 5:00 PM does seem to indicate that Republicans were only slightly less interested in getting out of town for the weekend then the Democrats were. Not to many revolutions are successful when led by congressmen with happy feet anxiously looking at watches and thinking about either the drive to the airport or how lucky they were to have tickets for the Dodgers and will get to see Manny Ramirez in Dodger Blue.

The whole to do was funny, unexpected and judging from the news extremely effective. But guys in stay-pressed shirts intoning about oil drilling while trying not to get a slice of Domino’s Pizza on their suit doesn’t really inspire. Especially when they leave me with the suspicion that this piece of political performance art ended early enough so that the pol could get home in time to find out what Katie Couric or Bill O’Reilly thought.
