In Memoriam: Mstislav Rostropovich
Mstislav Rostropovich, 1927-2007
I couldn’t find a YouTube of his playing at the Berlin Wall, but this of Bach’s Bouree, Ste #3 is lovely:
And here’s the Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007

And this one of the Prelude for #1 is nice, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU_QR_FTt3E
He’s older and the cello is almost a big as he is! This is one of the pieces I love, but mess up in the middle every time. My hands get so tired!
I took up the cello about 5 years ago and took lessons for about 3. Now I mostly just muck about. But its fun.

Wasn’t he wonderful?
And his student, Jacqueline DuPre was also magnificent.
